Businesses, and the economy in general, are embedded in society; they are society's means to organise the exchange of goods and services. Innovation on the other hand always fulfils a purpose, thus creating value for society. Time to look at the institutions through which societies cultivate innovation.

If you ask people's ideas about technology, you'll get a mixed bag of answers. Ranging from outright fascination, through perfect indifference, to utter scepticism. What you won't get, though, is a clear expression of what technology is at its core.
How much innovation can society cope with?
Earlier on I posted that innovation essentially is change that generates value for society. From that perspective, society should just embrace every bit of innovation it could get hold of, shouldn’t it?
